Using Authority Links In Your Content
I hope most of you are familiar with the term Authority links. For those who are not familiar let me explain that “Authority links are those links that are placed within the content of our website and that links comes from trusted websites that are highly ranked in Google.”
Links from authority side have great value in search engine optimization. Just as a link to a spammy site can effect your own web page in terms of search engine ranking. A link from a trusted site raises your website’s rank.
All the major search engines give high importance to inbound and out bound links of any website. It is always a good idea to try and include authority links in your website’s content.
How to find Authority Links?
Finding authority links is not difficult, but it might be harder to find an authority site directly related to your niche market. You can probably think of several trusted sites right off the top of your head: Wikipedia, any online newspaper (WSJ, CNN or BBC), About.com.
Start with optimizing for the target keywords on Google or Yahoo search. The results are automatically shown in descending order of page rank. Many social book marking sites provide the same feature of search; try advanced search options in social book marking sites specifying that you want the results listed by authority. This is because the list also includes the number of inbound links, you can further narrow down the list of those sites you want to link to.
Wikipedia is one of the best resource for finding trusted seed sites. You just have to look up a topic related to your e-commerce business and scroll down to the bottom of the Wikipedia page. The list of resources contains only those sites which are most relevant, trusted, and high ranking.
Tips For Using Authority Links
You should not cut your fingers with your own hands. You must be careful while using authority links in your site. Those links should not inadvertently send your visitors to a competing site. Just take an example of Amazon.com. Sure it has great page ranking but would you want an outbound link to a site that sells the same products you do?
If you have enough marketing budget you could consider becoming a category sponsor with the Yahoo Directory. This gives your site indirect link juice via an advert without paying the detrimental price of being put in the sandbox or viewed as a spammer by Google.
In the end remember to stay away from link farms and links that reference spammy sites.
